Gas Exchange

My tank has a drilled corner overflow which constantly skims the top and water falls about a foot into the overflow and then of course water going into the sump creates surface movement & bubbles there. The sump is only 1/2 covered. Should I be concerned about covering the main tank with glass...there are of course a few holes for equipment.....as far as the gas exchange issue goes?

Good Morning Allyson

BTW that's one great looking rug!

About the glass cover, probably the easiest way to tell is if your alk is up and you still have big Ph swings, or just low Ph.
Are you running a skimmer? they help

Another thing too, glass will cause a shift in the spectrum and intensity from your lighting.

Why are you thinking about putting a glass cover on the tank? Maybe someone can come up with something better.

Jerel

OH, congratulations on the new coral!

I would say that you are fine on gas exchange but... I would recomend to take the glass off, you will want to in the summer with warmer weather. HTH

I don't have a hood so I rely on the glass to lay the lights on...I have strip lights right now but will be upgrading to either power compacts or VHO's in the next few weeks. My alk is high at 11 and Ph has so far been stable at 8.3...haven't tested since Saturday but plan on doing all my tests again tonight. I'm not running a skimmer but attempting to go with an ecosystem. I figure with my tank being small (30 gal) and I'm not planning on stocking it quickly or heavily this would be ideal for me....not to mention the added expense.

Am I going to have to have my husband build me a hood? I'm still waiting on the spray bar he promised me last week...and the master bath still needs to be tiled....and the list goes on.

BTW thanks Jerel...I forgot I put our business web page link....I do plan on adding a dedicated reef page to it when I get used to the new digital camera. He can make any design into a rug, he just finished a tropical wall hanging for a guy

The glass will work for a while, but I would strongly recomend having your hubby build you a hood in the futur I think that is all hubbys are good for
