garlic and fish death???????
Has anyone here ever soaked their fishes food in garlic and fed it to the fish and then had any of their fish die??? I was telling a friend how I always feed garlic, so he tried it and next thing he knew his Foxface and his Lyneatus Wrasse were dead!!! I think he used the grocery store minced garlic and just dropped a few drops of the juice on their food and let it sit for a min. and then fed it to the fish.
Anyway, I feel just terrible since I kindof got him to use the garlic and am wondering if anyone else has had any problems when using it. I use the garlic by KENT so have never used the grocery store kind but have read of others using it with no problems.
Please let me know what you think could have happened. All of his other fish are fine as far as I know.
Thanks,
Jenni

I would find out which kid he used. Some of the grocery store types have presertives that are not good. I use fresh squeezed myself and it works great when i need it.

sorry, I looked again and I use Garlic Guard by Seachem not KENT. Never had any problems with it. In fact I credit it for clearing up some eye problems that 2 of my damsels had a couple of weeks ago. I am really sad for my friend.

I grind whole garlic up with the other ingredients for blender mush. I've used garlic Extreme by Kent dropped straight into the tank, never had a problem, in fact I credit it with helping fish.

When I put Extreme directly in the tank, the fish go so crazy to eat, maybe Jenn's friend's fish banged themselves on a rock in their feeding frenzy.

That is why I do it to get them ready to go for the food, The shimp start going all over the place looking for the food, I only feed about 2 times a week. some time I will put in some dry seaweed as a treat and I will put the garlic on it also .

I just use the garlic oil from the gel capsoules - fish love it and I usually add about 20 caps to the mush that I make.
So Jenn - don't feel bad - your friend could have over dosed- used the wrong kind of garlic or fish went crazy and injured themselves

Jenn, I'm with everyone else here.
I crush regular garlic that I get from my grocery stores produce section, place it in a cup with some tank water, and some food. I wait a bit, and I dump it in the tank. Never had a problem....and I was doing this about 2 times a week for a month.
I can see your dilema though, as your friend may now doubt all advice you ever give 'em.
Maybe print this out/forward/e-mail this thread to him, so he can see that you're not crazy...that actually was VERY good advice.
he must have just got some bad garlic, or OD'ed on it.
