Gaping Dersa... Reversable?
I got a beautiful Rainbow Dersa 3 days ago (mail order)
It looked ok when I got it and by the time i finished acclimating it the mantle was starting to extend....
Well three days later ZERO mantle extension, open barely enough to see inside and gaping like crazy..... there are still filimentious fibers comming from it's foot.
Is there anything I can do?
My 2yo Crocea is doing better then ever.
All params in check but since I know you wil ask here they are...
Temp 78 +/- 1deg
ph 8.4
Sg 1.025~1.026
Alk 8.5
Ca 410
Mg 1240
Amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10ish
Po4 undetectable
3x 250w 14K 23" deep tank dersa on sand.

I dont have a pic but clams have 2 holes in the mantle.
The mouth and another hole, actually a slit.
Gaping is when the slit become a giant hole

You may consider doing a freshwater dip. I'd also contact the folks at clamsdirect, who harbor a great amount of knowledge. They've got a few links to the forums they participate on for clam health. I'm not certain what causes gaping, and while common in crocea clams soon after shipping, finding it in a derasa is good reason to take action.

have you checked for pyramid snails?
move the clam up closer to the lighting. derasa's are fine on the rocks also, though you have to make sure it is very stable. what are the PAR ratings on those bulbs?

sorry to hear that. they can go down hill in a hurry.
were the bulbs 10K or 14K? your sig says 10K, but your post said 14K. 10K should have been plenty.

I keep 14 in my frag tank and 10K over the display...
the clam was in the display.
either way even it it was 20K as fast as it went I really doubt lighting was a factor...
