Question

gaaargh, help! sump ideas.....

Hi all! It is me, again. I wound up with a 125 gallon tank instead of the 50 i was going to use previously, when i was asking about lights. Well, I got the 125 (72" x 18 1/2" x 23 1/2") for free, and decided it was tooooo good a deal to pass up. So much labor intensive time later, I have huge tank in my living room, with one very good question. The LFS wants to charge me 350$ US for a sump, without a pump. That is lots of money. My tank can not be drilled, as it is an old plateglass aquarium from AGA, and I am afraid of cracking. How can I build a sump wet/dry filter (I have spare 29 long to use), and get it working. I dont have any predrilled holes in the tank, and no in-tank overflow section. Muchas Gracias, mi nuevo compadres!

Hi Erik,

I think AGA sells some hang on overflows designed for the tank. You could use those and go directly into the 29 gallon. Since your 29 gallon is a long one, you could also think of putting a divider for a refuge or extra DSB or just keep it as is and leave the extra room for extra pumps, heaters and a skimmer. 300 for a sump is way expensive I think.. I just bought a 30 gallon with light fixture for 85 bucks last weekend and will be using that as a sump in the near future.

Since you have the other tank you basically need a couple Amiricle cheapo hangon over flows or a Life Reef Dual outlet, or a CPR type and a return pump sized close to the volume they can handle. You can then customize the sump to fit your needs, but thats basically it
