fuge lighting
Please let me know what lighting you are using for your fuge. Please provide light name and links if possible. I'm just getting anywhere with my current setup and want to try some macro algae.
Thanks,
Hawks

Check out home Depot for their Fluorex fixtures. You can get a 65 watt PC for around $30.

But do you need a fixture for that right? unless it's all included in $30 otherwise you have to do DIY.

I used the HD brand clip on light with the screw in PC type daylight, Macro does good, It don't need as much light. I also run my lights 24/7

Here is the one I was referring to.
The whole fixture is under $30, they put out a LOT of light.

I will consider that when I change my fuge light in 8 months or so.

That seems like an aweful lot of lighting for just the fuge. Would that give you nausance algae growth?
Anyone else have any ideas?????

I would tell you what I currentally use on my 15's 5 gallon fuge, but I can't remember .
I can tell you that I used to use a PC 65W coralife fixture over the fuge in my 50 gallon while I had it. It was a 20 gallon fuge, and was by no means too much light. I wouldn't even worry about nucance algae growth in your fuge because even that kind of algae is taking away nutreants from your system, and you can't see the fuge anyway.

Whiskey

Most algaes love very bright lighting; and yes, nuiscance algae (not cyano) growth is what your promoting in a fuge.

wharyat (or anyone)
I bought the lights that you suggested from home depot. It's 65 watt 6500k outdoor flood light from lights of america. My question is how did you wire it? It comes out of the box with two wires (1 white, 1 black) and nothing else. Am I suppose to buy some standard cord that can be plugged into an outlit?
Thanks,
Hawks.

You can either buy a premade lamp cord with a plug on the end or just get a few feet(however much you need) of some 14 gauge wire(can be romex or sj cord really whatever you prefer, might even be able to go smaller but you cant go too large) and get a plug for it and just wire it up. As always, make sure you plug it in to a gfci outlet or use a gfci extension cord. If you have any more questions pm me, i used to work at home depot in the electrical dept.

The way I do all my lighting is just either use a computer cord or an extension cord and cut off the outlet end, that way I have a nice molded plug-in. White is ground, black is hot, green is a redundant (safety) ground. I use either butt-splices, wire nuts, or solder and shrink tubing for the connections; matters how permanent I want them to be.
Totally agree with funi on the GFCI, if you don't have one, get one.
