Stupid Mantis Shrimp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I were to pull out my rocks one by one until I found this *******, would the die-off jump start a new cycle? I dont want to kill the 2 clowns and urchin I just bought last weekend.

I have already done this once, before the fish, and obviously I did not do it right. I tried the super salty water thing. Should I go for the club soda trick or is there another trick I should try,

Also is it possible this fool has or will burrow into the sand?

I need help. This shrimp is driving me crazy. My fiance and co-workers think Im nuts and if I dont get rid of it soon I will be.

I've never had a problem with mantis (knock on wood). But, I have heard of pretty good responses with traps. I know there have been several threads on this board, so a search may be helpful, since I wasn't

Here's an idea, take just a few rocks at a time out and put them in a rubbermaid containers(you'll need 2) with a power head. If the thing is still in your tank then you know its not in those rocks and then move the rocks out of the first rubbermaid into the second rubbermaid and get more rocks out of the tank and put them in the first rubbermaid. You should be able to isolate the thing that way, you may just have to discard the rock it is in or smash it with a hammer LOL

Hope this helps

Oh man, a couple of years back someone wrote a post on the insanities of hunting for a mantis and it was one of the funniest things I had ever read! I searched for it, but it must have been in the old incarnation of the board. I'm sure there are others here that remember it, did anyone save it? Dick, maybe?

We all know the stupid things cause death and destruction, which isn't in itself funny, but the poster chronicled his adventures in a way that made me just about fall out of my chair

If you can isolate which rock it is in, the club soda works very, very well. Take the rock out of the tank and squirt the club soda in the holes in the rock. Watch your fingers, cuz he'll come flying out! This is how we finally got our mantis out of the reef. He's living happily in his little 10g now.
