Hi Folks, glad to be a newbie on this message board. I have had a 90 gallon corner tank for a year and a half now, and have had the tank drained and moved temporarily to make way for a new kitchen renovation.
When the work is finished (we're a month into the project) and the tank is returned to its hallowed place in the corner of our new kitchen (in about a month from now), it is my desire to convert my former minimal decor tank (crushed shells and painted fake coral) to a living reef with LR, coral, and all the really good stuff.
I have a wet/dry filtration system using
bio balls, a skimmer, in-line UV light. I can't tell you much more than that in terms of specifications, but my main question is:
If you could do it all over again, what mistakes would you
not make??? I am familiar with the cycling process, I was in the habit of doing 25% water changes every month after the initial cycling process was done. I have a
Hawk fish and a clown in a 10 gallon holding tank that used transferred water from my main tank (during the draining process). It is my wish to reintroduce them as soon as the new mother tank is ready. They are doing just fine at this time.
What are the major differences in going to a reef tank from a minimalist tank? Is the use of sand necessary?
Thanks so much for your input, I want to do this right!
