Good news/bad news
Good news: I noticed recently that my frogspawn coral is starting to grow a new polyp head on one of the empty branches!
Bad news: 3 of 5 polyps are not completely opening. The two that are look better than ever but the other three only come about halfway out. It been three days now and Im starting to get nervouse. All my water parameters check out, my cal & alk levels are good, what could be the problem?
Ive come up with two possibilities, let me know which one you guys think it could be or if you think it may be something else.
1. I recently moved the rock its attached to. I only moved the coral about 2 inches but the angle of the coral changed and the new rock arrangement may have changed the flow pattern. The amount of flow/light seems exactly the same so I cant imagine it would have this kind of effect on the coral. Do you think it may just need time to adjust to its new situation?
2. Its under nourished. I feed a mush every other day and DT's on the days off from the mush, but maybe thats not enough. Im going to try gently blowing some meaty food its way the next few feeding and see if that helps. Could this be the case.
This coral has been healthy for months in my tank and this is the first time it has not shown full extension. It is not in close proximity to any other corals so, it cant be a battle for space. The only action I've taken so far was to gently blow on the polyps with a turkey baster in case some detritus had accumulated, but that wasnt it either.
Any suggestions? I think #2 is more realistic than #1 as the coral wasn't moved much at all, but there could be something Im overlooking. Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry for the lenghth, I wanted to give as much info as possible.
TIA
