Frog Spawn it is!
I was thinkin about gettin a frog spawn as a host for my new clowns. i know that they like low current (easy enough), some sites say they need medium-high light. My tank is a 55gal w/four 65 watt PC lights, 2 daylights and 2 actinic. Would this be sufficient lighting for a frog spawn? also, what are your experiences w/ these corals, easy? hard? aggressive? passive? tell me anything and everything you know thanks

I like frog spawn! Wish I could have it in my tank, but I don't think it would be happy with just normal output lighting... post a pic when you get yours!

I would think you have enough light for a frogspawn. I may be wrong but somebody more knowledgable about lighting will chime in.

you should be ok. they do make a really good host but make sure you never handle them with bare hands. they can hurt if you have any open sores or scratches. moderate flow area and make sure they aren't shaded at all.

Start at mid level. they are usually ok with 5w per gallon at that level.

This is mine. I have 2x55 watt PCs in a 26 gallon bow tank and the coral is mid level and flourishing. My clowns love it.

I love frogspawn, too. My tank started out with 2 x 55, and now has a light set up like yours. Frogspawn loves it.
Do be careful, as Twitter says. I've seen mine lash out at other corals. This is a pic from several years ago.

btw, Justin- great photo of your frogspawn and clown
I was lucky - Tom gave me the frogspawn. Maybe we can round up some others who know about selection.

As far as what color to get, I have a green and I guess you would call it a maroon colored frogspawn in my tank. I gave them both plenty off room with the other corals around them.

I have a green frogspawn in a 28 gal with 2 x 65 pc's. They have actually expanded from 4 heads to 6 in the last 10 months. I had some other problems that killed off a lot of my other corals, but the frogspawn has always been fine - very hardy.

That should be sufficient lighting. And a really good choice of coral.
as stated, be VERY careful in placing these guys. Give them plenty of room! Euphyillia can be REALLY aggressive.
And also, I recommend YOU respect teh coral. In the same family as the hammers...and there've been a few occasions where I've bumped my hammer. My back instantly tenses up, and is sore for a few hours afterwards. While everyone's reactions are different, my research has seemed to point to a greater number of people who are sensitive to Euphyllia than most other corals.
When you first get it...they're usually weakened and retracted, so I wouldn't worry to much then. But I'm saying that after you've had him for a while, and he's thriving....be aware of him when you have your hands in the tank.
I think mid-level in the tank should be sufficent. And decent flow. Not a super amount....but a decent bit.
And you BETTER post pics!!!
