Friend, Foe or Alien ?????? ID PLEASE


OKAY THIS THING IS FREAKING ME OUT....PLEASE HELP ME ID THIS THIS BEFORE I GO PUTTING MY HAND BACK IN THE TANK actually only the size of halfdollar coin, but scary as heck looking....

I just found this and have no idea where it came from. Last LR I got was like 4 months ago.....

What kind of crab is this? Dangerous to my Reef Corals? Dangerous to my fish?

looks like a rock crab, I have one in my tank and mine doesn't bother anything. Seems like he hitched a ride on your LR. They are fairly shy and see to come around most at night.

how big will it get over time? how long will it live?

i really didn't go looking for it until i found it's molting floating around....

That's exactly how I found mine. Mine has been in my tank for over a year and molted 9 times at least. Not quite sure how long they live in general. Mine hasn't gotten much bigger over the past year.

I feel like if I go eat CrabLegs at Red Lobster, this thing will be PO'ed and waiting for me under my bedsheets when I get home. yikes!

If its got hairy legs and you didnt buy it AND you can easily catch it................i would recommend gettng it out of your display. Even if that means simply banishing him to your sump because you want to keep him.

it has pointy tips to its claws, so i will lean towards it being predatory. as it gets bigger it will want bigger and bigger food.

i would get rid of it.
