How big is your tank? This will tell us if you have too many fish or your system is new!
You need at least a 55 gallon tank although a 75-100 gallon tank would be alot better for a tang. It may be getting stressed out if your tank is to small or new. Please let us know your set-up. Johnny

Please describe the brown spot. How big? Does it look like a bruise? Raised? Over-all brown coloring but like a rash?

Any other symptoms? Breathing hard?

Let us know Roy, we want to help!

OK Roy, go to www.webshots.com, set up an account, then upload the pic to an "album" next open up the pic in your browser, right click on the pic, go to properties, copy the address (URL) and then come back here, click on the Image button under the "Instant UBB Code" and paste the address there. Whew, I hope you get all that, if not, we are here to help.

Roy, have you noticed any signs of parasites? Heavy breathing, cloudy looking skin, etc.
From what I can see on the tang, it looks like a bacterial infection probably brought on by ammonia burn or unstable water prams. But then I don't have my glasses on either.
When you test your water, are you testing for Alk? Using a lot of buffer is one indication of a new unstable system. Also, you could be having ammonia spikes that you're not able to catch.

All my water params are stable - I check every 3 days - maybe I am missing something though, i'm not testing alk. - also the 2 damsels that died had heavy breathing but the tang seems fine - he just has that spot on him and i'm worried he will die - that would suck.

Yes, heavily.

But leave the tank alone.
