dont detach it....take a new razor or scalpel and cut it into halves or quarters depending on size. tryo to get a pice of mouth and attached foot in each piece adn cut down hard enough that you go through the rock a litle so you know it seperates

thats it. give it a week to heal and then you can remove the mushrooms you want

Given enough time though, shrooms will multiply generously in your tank

dont be sorry. taking a knife to your pets the first time is a odd thing

I like to leave them inpalce and let them heal before moving them...thats why I try to cut and leave some foot attached to each peice, thenI donthave to deal with getting it to attach.

Then once it looks ok you can srape or cut the rock ouot from underneth and glue them whreever you want easily.

If you have a dremel with a cutting wheel, one cut underneath and a quick pop with a screwdriver usually will give you a nice piece of rock to glue to

It's an excellent step-by-step guide to cutting mushrooms with pictures.

To get the halves to attach to rubble, some people put them on rubble in an area with low flow (like in the tutorial), but others use a small glass (like a shot glass) with a layer of rubble on the bottom to keep their fresh cut shrooms in until they heal. The glass protects them from flow and gives them time to attach to the rocks.

Hope this helps!

actually a glass or any container you cant riddle with holes is not a very good way to do it.

I agree that putting them in a container to get them to attach on their own is the easiest way to get it done if they are free floating, but you want to take a tupperware or plastic container with a lid, riddle it with holes on the sides and lid with a layer of rubble inside. give them few days to a week or so and they will attach ont heir own and you can then glue what they attached to easily wherever you want.

If you put it in a glass or somehting you cant get flow through not only will it take much longer as they wont be happy, it can be dangerous and cause infection to your fresh cuts. Flow through is mandatory as is the lid to keep them in ther with good flow

although if you did it as I mentioned below, never detaching it from the hold its foot has when cutting, and then cutting the rock out from underneath it once it heals, you never have to deal with that part in the first place
