Foxface Lo??

I would like to hear from people that have this fish and how they like or don't like it. I am trying to decide on what the last fish will be for my 80 gallon tank and a couple of people have suggested this fish. So, any info, good or bad, that you can give me about it would be great!

Thanks!
Jenni

perfect... thanks... thats what I wanted to hear. I need a "swimmer" that is peaceful in my tank. I am assuming I could get a small juvenile one and watch him grow.

Anyone else?

thanks again,
Jenni

if you do it right when they are small ou can get them to eat right out of your hand!
if you have any other "swimmers" in there he will love it. he is alway the " peace keeper" sometiimes. i have seen him get inbetween others when they were fighting.

Yeah, my friend's foxface is buddies with his lyneatus wrasse... they are inseparable! I am feeding his tank while they are in Hawaii and the foxface practically takes the food out of my hand... thats where i got the idea to ask here about this fish.

thanks, Jenni

Mine eat out of my hand, they are very personable. These fish are great herbivores that don't have the space requirements that Tangs do.

They are long-lived, very peaceful, non-territorial, and do a great job controlling both micro- and macroalgae. I have always had a few in the systems, the only ones that I have lost have been jumpers and carpet surfers. They do like to have feedings of nori, either on a clip or by hand feeding, and they will not eat your corals.

They wear pajamas to bed...

Many different species within the genus (Siganus spp.), almost all share the same behavior pattern. Keep in mind that the first several dorsal spines are toxic, and used in a defensive manner. The defensive display is seen as head down and dorsal fins erect when they are threatened, usually associated in extreme conditions with total color change into their sleepware camouflage. The issue with the toxic spines becomes a counterpoint to their social behavior, especially when they associate your hand with feeding. I occasionally scrape the walls of the prop system with bare hands, and the algae scrapings are like treats to the Foxfaces, they will swim between your hand and the glass as you scrape... Not that I make a practice of this, but they also seem to enjoy brushing against your hand while performing weekly maintenance. I guess I should wear my aquagloves...

These are GREAT little fish, and always fulfill a role in controlling algal growth in systems.
