FoxFace in a Reef, Your Thoughts?
I would Like to hear everyones thoughts or experience on these fish in a Reef tank.
I remember from the talk last month by Richard Durso on #Reefs from reefs.org that he stated he has had one in his 180 for sometime and has never realy had any problems with this fish but I have read on numerous other sites that this is not a reefsafe fish.
I am planning on getting one of these fish hopefully this comming weekend if I can make the trip. I will get him either way if I have a problem with him in the reef I will just put him into the Fishonly side. But I would like to hear your thoughts and or experiences.
thanks Clay

in my experience(last 2 months) my Foxface i got for my 75 reef , has picked at bubble algae, not sure if he reads the "boards" ,eats anything i offer the tank , appears to leave the tank inhab's alone (so far). a fellow reefer(Pirate) near me got a foxface just b4 i got mine (same LFS) to combat a bubble algae problem in his tank .(much worse than mine) last time we talked , most all his bubble algae is gone , no word of bothering anything in his tank, i'm sure i would have heard it by no if it did, hope this helps, just my 2 cents,,,,,

In my opinion it's one of the safer fish for a reef tank. I've had on in mine for about 4 years with 0 problems. It is a very non agressive fish and gets along with other fish. They can get rather large tho.

Excellent hard-working fish, keeps my prop system free oa algal growths of ANY kind. Mine is quite affectionate as well, when I scrape the coralline of the front glass, it will swim between my hand and the glass. Not really a good idea with a fish that has toxic spines...
Mine will also eat nori from my hand, visitors enjoy doing this...
btw, new nomenclature calls these of the genus Signatus, specifically S. vulpinis and S. unimaculatus for the "no spot " and the "one spot" yellow with black-faced Foxface Rabbitfishes.

I had one many years ago. It did a great job on algae. I have not had one since. Only because I have been keeping my bioload as low as possible.
Got any updated pics of your dual setup? I think it is really great idea.

Thank god for my foxface. He will be moving on as he was just a loaner until he got rid of my caulerpa problem, and he did a great job! He is too small to eat anything but the small bubble algae now, and he is only in a 30 so he will be moving back into the lfs soon. He did quite a number on the blasted caulerpa though, and never touched anything in the tank that wasn't either caulerpa, bubble algae, or food that I introduced.

Sargassum, Hair Algae, Byropsis, Valonia
All the stuff that not many other fish will eat the Foxface will, and most other rabbit fish too. I love my foxface and wouldnt trade him for the world!
