That would get really small for a dogface puffer. They can get up to 12". Also, it is typical that puffers will nip at lionfish.

The puffer won't survive the lionfish. My book is packed up so I can't look up the minimum aquarium size on the puffer but marinecenter.com says minimum for a dogface is 75 and from what I have read and seen, most estimates for minimum tank size are about half of what they really need.
As for clowns only, no. You only have to think about what is in Kerri's 75G tank to know you can keep more than clowns in a 75G tank.

What about a dwarf puffer. Like a Saddle Valentini Puffer, Blue dot, Indian those are some of the more colorful ones. Not sure how set you are on the dogface.

| Taken from Blue Zoo's web page. According to them...you can have one in a 75 gal...they are very reputable. I think you would be fine for a few years at least...
Dogface Pufferfish
|
| | | | | Scientific Name | Arothron nigropunctatus | | Reef Compatible | No | | Care Level | Intermediate | | Disposition | Semi-aggressive | | Min. Tank Size | 75 gallons | | Mature Size | 13 inches | | Diet | Carnivore | | Range | Indo-Pacific | | Size Class | |
|
| | | Other Common Names | | Arothron Dog Face Pufferfish, Blackspotted Pufferfish | | | Description | The Dogface Pufferfish is aptly named not only for it’s appearance but it’s behavior. Rarely aggressive, this animal is best suited for a non-reef environment as it will eat crustaceans, corals and other invertebrate life. This fish generally has a random smattering of dark spots on a colored body ranging in colors from browns, grays, yellows and rare black, gold or orange. More than one of this species can be kept in an aquarium.
When frightened or distressed, Pufferfish can inflate over two times it’s original size. Purposely enticing this behavior will eventually cause illness and even death. Provide plenty of live rock to keep teeth worn down or be sure to trim teeth as needed. | | | Diet | Though shy and refusing food on initial introduction, it will become bold, if not spoiled. Eventually it will beg for food just as well as any dog asking for table scraps. In the wild, Pufferfish tend to be nocturnal hunters.
Feed a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods. These foods include krill, raw table shrimp, squid, clam and mussel. It is also a good idea to occasionally supplement with some type of herbivore diet. |

What does it having a dogface puffer in the tank have to do with it being a reef tank? You can have a 125G FOWLR tank. Just because you want a larger tank doesn't mean it has to be a reef tank.
