Question

found possible halide light solution opinion needed

2 clip on halide lights not sure of K's of the light but there 150w each.they'll be positioned on each side of the tank. total of 300w of light for a 55 tall..is this enough for SPS or is it overkill ?

refresh my memory, how deep is the tank to your proposed positions for the specimens in question (how deep is the water?)? How high will the lights actually be from the water? Is there any kelvin rating for the bulbs?

the tank is about 2 or 3 feet deep..i'll want to keep LPS SPS & Soft, anything photosynthetic, lights will be about 3 or 4 inches above water..kelvin may be 10k i think.

Well two or three feet deep is a big difference At 2' I doubt SPS will flourish toward the bottom, but the softies and LPS might do OK. But it depands on the ballast/bulb combo. At three feet deep, you might not be able to keep much toward the bottom depending on the bulb/ballast combo.

I'm guessing these are the coralife clip ons, but I can't be certain.

Also keeping SPS, Softies and LPS may not work. SPS requires a lot different parameters than some sofies and vice versa. You will need to really do your homework when putting a mixed reef together like that... Not everything goes well with everything else

i think that a 55 tall is 32" tall (if i remember right). you really should go with 250w Halides IMO because 150w's will not penetrate to the bottom of a tank that deep. this is just my opinion though.
