Question

Forktail Blennie / Red Sea Mimic Blennie ???

Are these two the same fish? The Red Sea Mimic Blennie is shown on page 289 of Fenner's "Conscientious Marine Aquarist". I found the picture of the forktail blennie at Flying Fish Express ( http://www.flyingfishexpress.com/setfish.htm ). Looks very similar...

I was interested in them, but can't find much. Any info on either/or of these guys- feeding, environment, etc? Anyone keep one? Info appreciated!

Thanks,
Twig

Nevermind! I just turned over the page in my book and there's a picture of the forktail, too. So obviously they're NOT the same fish! Any info appreciated on either just the same! Though at this point I'm more interested in the Mimic as the forktail is apparently poisonious. Thanks again!!

Red Sea Mimic Blennie (Ecsenius Gravieri)
Forktail Blennie (Meiacanthus atrodorsalis)

Sorry; I can't be much help here. We've gotten the forktail into the shop a few times but they haven't stayed around long enough for me to get much insight into their behavior. They like live brine, didn't seem to be fussy eaters as they took the frozen brine and krill too. We had one that jumped so some screening or eggcrate may be in order to keep down the fish suicide rate. They also like to kind of stick themselves to the glass, especially in the corners of the tank. The first time I saw that I thought for sure the fish was a goner but he swam away quick enough when I went after him and I later observed other forktails and midas blennies do the same thing.

HTH,

~Alice
