i do not see why not. IO is usually cheaper, but as long as you are consistant the salt should not matter.

i thought clorine was quickly removed when salt was added to the water. a declorinator may not be necessary. i will see if i can hunt down Tom for comfirmation on this. in other words, do not take my words on this without better confirmation.

I was under the impression that you needed to dechlorinate before adding salt

Alot will depend on the use (or reuse) of tap water as top off for this system,. I doubt that it will make that much difference, as most of these organisms (or human consumption) do9 not have the long run in mind when they keep lobster, crabs, etc in these tanks. For less than 30 days, it should not be an issue, I would not add the ddechlorinator, however, the issue may depend on how much chlorine he local mains wqter has there. BSW at 35 ppt has a chlorality of 19.00 (I think) most mains wqter has so much chlorine in it that hou can actually smell the chlorine, this SHOULD be covered by the many cations in seawater, esp Mg, K, Ca, and Na as they are either divalent or have huge quantities in NSW, so ionic chlorine should rapidly be taken out of ionic play, however, it would still be my recommendation to use at least water that has been run through a makeshift carbon reactor to remove chlorine nd heavy metals prior to uwe for food. (a piece of 4" dia PVC capped and tapped for flow of tap water, with a wad of cotton bandages with about 16 oz of carbon on top, capped, and another wad of bandages on top (food grade particulate filters...) with the TW flowing from bottom to top to go into the tank for mfg of ASW.

thanks guys, i told him to let the water sit out before w/c over night to let the clorine disapate, I just was unsure if there was any special procedure if you were eating from your tank. I think the owner said most of the crabs dont last a week because of sales volume.
