Follow up to Shroom Questions

So that I'm clear on this subject, does everyone feel that a 70 gallon reef tank with hundreds of Mushroom at every level of the tank, would be OK with a total of 440 watts of power compact litghting with no adverse effect. They were all grown under flouresent light. Several shrooms reach almost up to water level currently. This has become an interesting topic for me. Of course slow acclimation to the new light would be necessary.
Thanks everyone.

I use a similar setup for my corallimorph and octocoral propagation system, the only difference is that that system has only 7 to 8 inches of water (depth after sandbed)) and is around 60 gal total vol for this system (12x24x48). I use the LoA lamps for the sump (reverse photoperiod) which holds around 40 gal plus LR/sand/halimeda. I can bring 1/4th section cuttings of mushrooms to quarter-sized adults in about 10 weeks and 1 inch sinularia/capanella, etc cuttings to about double their original size in 2 to 3 months (varies) with this system. This has worked fine for me for about 15 months now. (I would recommend Icecaps though)

Just a suggestion on your acclimation to the stronger lights.

I have seen that a lot of people acclimate by slowly raising the amount of time the new intense lights are on. It was my experience that my shrooms reacted better to the change of MH by adjusting the hieght of the new light over time. Slowly lowering it untill it is now at 10 inches above the water.

Hi Reef Keeper,

I have all my mushrooms under 175w MH. I am using a pendant fixture which helps give more shaded areas, but many are in direct light. Two that detached have chosen to reattach less than 14" from the halide fixture, directly under the bulb, with no ill effects, they all seem to be doing well. The rodactis (sp?) are budding noticeably.

This shot shows the rodactis on the right, they recieve the most light except the green stripes in my tank. hth
