Fly Guy/Wiskey ---Safe paint for SW?
hey guys i remember one of you used the pcv paint to primer it purple but i dont know what is a good brand and what to look for. I just ordered a M1500 and should get it in 3 days i want to paint this bad boy so there wont be a gray PW in the tank. would it be safe to paint it? If you have a pic and name of the paint i can go to Home Depot or Lowes to buy it. And if its ok to paint how long before i can drop it in the tank? thx

Sorry, not me. I have never put any paint in my tank itself, the only thing I have painted is the back of my tank's glass.

The purple is just PVC primer. About 3 coats will give you a nice deep purple.

if your talking about my spraybars its purple primer you can pick up anywhere, and its fine to use as soon as it isnt wet anymore. Id rinse anyway for good measure just becasue it smells so bad, but it will still stink...wont hurt anything.
It gets covered in coralline within 2 or 3 months anyway......however i DO think the coralline sticks to the etched plastic a little quicker than if you didnt prime it. It would probably stick even faster yet if you simply ran a rough grit sandpaper over it..........

yes....plumbing aisle right next to the glue. You should always use primer when gluing pvc together when there is ANY kind of pressure...sometimes you can get away with not using primer OR glue with drain lines as there isnt any pressure....but most often it needs to be used
Etched plastic is simply the result of using primer......... it softens the surface of the pvc...............while still wet thats how it makes the plastics you put together become one piece in a sense when using glue
After it dries when you havent glued anything it still has changed the integrity of the surface of the pvc.....thats "etched"

i have had no problems with putting things painted with Krylon fusion paint for plastic. all of my visible PVC pipes were painted black with this stuff. also my Coast to coast overflow was painted with this stuff. can not get it at Lowe's or HD. but any Walmart will have it. i have also used various other spray paints without any problems. i prefer the krylong because it holds so much better onto plastic.

When its not wet its good to go.....its dry in MINUTES...if that. The more coats you put on it the darker it gets. I find using a sponge to apply it and "dob" it on makes it look better..its going to run regardless of what you use though to apply it with. 3-4 coats usually does the trick and you dont have to wait for it to dry......just start swabbing it on one end to the other.....
oops..sorry....my names isnt Tim...............: )

The company name is Oatey's Purple PVC Primer.
And like they said above, you will find it in the PVC section with the glue and all.
You don't need much, b/c it is like water. I would recommend you pick up some plastic to lay down underneath, b/c this stuff is a mess. It runs everywhere. But, you really just need something waterproof to put underneath it.
Also, you might want to pick up a cheapie small paintbrush, b/c it only comes with a cottony ball attached to a thin wire attached to the lid. Pretty cheesy, but it worked for me.
Doesn't take much time at all to dry, maybe couple hours just to be sure and then rinse off, like said above.
