fluval
I have currently a 65 g reef tank with a proclear wet/dry Problem is I can't get rid of a bubble problem spent endless amounts of money and time that is not necessary.If i throw out the wet dry and get a fluval will that work.I know a fluval will not give me bubbles.I have no idea what else to do the bubbles make the tank look like crap.I am about ready to give it up.

Can you give us good pictures of the following:
sump
tank
returns
return pump in action
we might be able to see something you haven't. Stay away from canister filters for SW. they are way too high maintenance.

i actually had a problem puting pictures on so i had tims post them in another post bubbles 3 lol
there is bubbles in the sump bubbles in the tank. the pump is a mag drive 7 mounted externally it was internal when i first got the tank.And without a skimmer and i still had bubbles.With heat i put it externally. I glued all fittings replaced the swivel return neck replaced all fittings re taped threads wrapped tape 10 times.I put a finer sponge over the pick up tube in the sump.still bubbles. they are so fine that they just flow through any sponge with ease.
It has me so puzzled im out of amo.
The bubbles just laugh at me hahahahahaha i think its the wet/dry mabye the setup not sure i had another tank a few years ago had nothing like this i mean this to me is not fun

Why do you think the fluval won't give you bubbles? Mine does. every 15min. or so I get a plume of tiny bubbles.

I was looking at the pics in the other thread. It looks like the bulkhead for your return does not have a 90 degree elbow on the inside of the sump. otherwise i would say that it's the skimmer. have you tried backpressure to see if there is a pinhole leak in the return somewhere?

"p.s. FUVAL ARE JUNK! There hard to start,"
I agree 100% I have to watch an make sure it starts. I walked off ONCE and it did'nt start popped the breaker and all the pumps went out. I get a clean start 2 out of 5 times. I don't think the fuval is my air problem though, I think it's the skimmer. The air collects in the fuval then releases. It's one of the problems I'm working on before I move the tank to my new office. I hope to figure out all this stuff and set everything up ONCE and have it work flawless. (dreaming)

Its hard to tell but your sump looks a bit short to be able to give bubbles the chance to disipate before being returned to the tank. Can you get a better shot of the whole sump from side to side? Also why use a wet dry on a reef? Just curious as they are known to cause problems with nitrates. I canister will only add to that problem. You seem to have alot going on for something that a simple set up will provide more than adequate filtration with less chance of problems. Have you considered putting a glass baffle in between the skimmer and return pump? I know you have said that there are no bubbles in the sump but youd be suprised what a impellor will do to a very small bubble. Have you shut the whole return system off (with the valve on the return pump closed) and watched for an hour or so for any leaks to develope around any fittings in the return plumbing? If not I would do so.

Also, buying another piece of equipment isnt fixing the problem. You have to find the cause fiorst. Then you cvan determine where to go from there.
