flow and the new tank build

yes, it's another thread in the I am designing a new tank thougths.

The basics

this will be a bb sps/lps tank

I have a 95 pent corner tank that will be my main display with a 55 gallon frag tank and a 75 gallon sump.

BM 200 skimmer
250W MH on coralife ballest with lumenarc mini reflector - reeflux 10K or 12k bulb

t5's for actnic supplemention

velocity t1 return pump ( from basement).

55 frag tank will be run with 4 4 ft long t5's and return will be a mag 3

I need flow for both tanks...

I have the following
3 koralia 3's
3 mj 1200
2 mj900

My thoughts are to use the maxi jet sure flow mod on a few of the mj''s for added flow.

My returns will provide about 300ish gallons - not much, but that is ok.

I am thinking about the 3 koralias in the display with 2 sure flows

and ???? in the dispaly tank....

I liked the idea of the new koralias on a wave box once they come out.. I can tell ya now that i don;t have the cash for tuunze.

what can i do to get a wave like motion with what i have? or can i?
what configurtaion of exsisting powerheads would you use in this setting?

other imput?

are you still with out sand? is that helpingwiht your cleaning at all?

i am thinking about putting the 3 koralias top/mid tank and pointing them toward the bottom of the tank 1 left 1 middle and 1 right and then adding 2 of the sure flows at teh bottom pointed upward ish in the two front corners... but I don't know about that... I really don't want to see them.

I amk guessing folks are gonna tell you more flow pointed toward the bottom....

but then not sure what to do for the 55

Flow with the korillas, tunze and vortecs is a little different since you are creating a, undertow across the bottom and top while pushing the GPH out the front. So often times you really just have to stick them in there and play with them to see what works the best. Sometimes pointing them where you think would be great can create a diatris accumulation point in an unlikely place due to the water moving back toward the pump near the bottom of the tank.

Just food for thought

I would play with the display running 2 korilas to start and see where else I needed flow. Maybe another korila or a MJ here or there, aquascaping plays a huge part in where to put things. But overall I would pay attention to the display and worry about the frag tank when you need to

lol so the frag tank gets whatever is left over

Part of the quetion is due to ordering - I HATE paying shipping more than i need to- so if i "need" 3 sure flows i dont' wanna buy 2 adn then end up buying a 3 one in a few weeks... ya see what I mean.

any idea where to get big magnets that dont' cost 35 bucks each?

In theory you will need less flow in the frag tank since the corals will be frags and without all the aquascape interfering with it. Unless you are going to have a fishless tank with rocks to grow corals in. Up to you though Worse comes to worse, I 'll have a couple Korila 4s sitting around next week
