Flourex lights on Ebay

Has anybody tried the flourex lights advertised on ebay.

They claim they put out 8250 lumens but at only 65 watts. I know the color spectrum for these light is not the ideal for a reef.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=20755

Thanks.

It's the same lighting fixture they sell at home depot and sometimes walmart for $29.99. It's actually a 65W screw in power compact bulb.
People have used them on their refugiums but mind burned out in 4 months because of excess heat trapping. I believe the color was 65K.

It's great for the fuge but not for the main tank. Holes need to be drilled to allow the heat to escape. Fixture is about $30 from HD and the bulbs are $15. The one that I have over the fuge is the 4th one, but has been going strong for 15 mths, now (knock on wood)

If you want lights that size they have CustomSeaLife ones with the same wattage at Foster and Smith or Marine Depot. The company is out of business so you can get them on fire sale. The spectrums are correct as well.

Usually when someone makes incredible claims it gets the BS detector going from my humble experience.

sanblas, yes actually they are freakin' identicle. I have made DIY lights of of those... the internal ballast it crud. With a little wiring.. you can use a very cheap external ballast and just use a mogul socket.

I used 4 of these over a prop tank for a while, worked great, but they need to be about 10 inches off the water and open and ventilated to prevent premature burnout.

Mine lasted about 14 months, cheapo and easy, but not the ideal unit, as they are not very attractive, you need to make some mods, and the first major power spike will take them out (voice of experience)

Great for refugiums.
