I agree they seem to just hang around for a while then pass on. Not sure of the life span , but I imagine in the wild for years.

I had mine for over a year until my upgrade. Never direct fed it. Lost it last month.

htey are hard to keep going, it is like the flower pot. some have great luck other dont at all. i did feed mine form time to time and it staied pretty good, lost it in a heat spike a while back..
