Fixing a ballast

how hard is it to fix a ballast on a orbit 48" pc?

I can get a good deal on one, but one of the ballasts is dead. where would I get a replacement?

it wouldnt be hard to fix, but I wouldnt know where to get it.

Replacing a ballast isn't really hard. Home Depot/Lowes carry ballasts but you may have better luck in the yellow pages and find your local lighting supply house. They can get the numbers off the old ballast and most likely get an exact replacement.

Most ballasts are simply a matter of undoing and reconnecting wire nuts. If the Orbit fixture is insulated, then its a bear to get to the ballast. The PC light fixture I have has solid styrofoam insulation in it (I have no clue why) but I am not sure what brand it is. If I ever have to replace a balllast on that fixture, it won't happen.

I have not taken it apart to see if I am in the same situation

It's not hard,you need to cut and wire nut same color back together.
