Fish Have Died!
2 shrimps and 4 fish have died in the night
I done a 20% water change over the weekend and installed a de-nitration unit.
Its been baking hot here and the tank temperature went upto 29 degrees C. Would this be the cause?
It actually happened during the night, and the evening before the fish and tank temperature were fine!!
Im gutted...
Could it be another reason? ive had the tank for 6months and everything has run smoothly until now.

Was wondering that myself. Seems like it could be the culprit if no other changes. Fish usually can handle higher temps a little better than corals. No chemicals were used near the tank or around where you mix your water were they(accidently)? How are test #'s now?

That sulfur Denitrator I don't know, I have a pretty large one and I picked it up and have not done any real research on them as yet, So I have not hooked up, I Know they do recommend running reactor media or Crushed coral with them also to help balance or remove some of the sulfur before it reaches the tank. But You are dealing with sulfur. That may have been the problem and well temps if it real go warm. I would look into them two area first

I questioned this is my LFS, and they said the denitrator would not do any harm.
He runs one on his own tanks.
I'll just have to check some tests tonight and start over again.
Im also going to buy a fan to keep the water cooler.

Well I don't know, Like I said I have read some but have not did all I want to on the subject before I hook mine to the tank. Everything I have read is that they can take sulfur in the water as ocean water hads it,. certain amounts of it. the problem here is not alot of people used them. as far as the temp, I have gotten all the wy to 85 86 degrees on my tanks and never lost anything. . The fan will help, and let us know what You find if You do find what the problem is, It will help all of us down the road to try and help someone else. Good luck

putting a fan on the tank blowing on the waters surface is a great idea. did you turn off any pumps or anything over night. if the waters surface had gone stagnant than you could have run out of O2. this would affect the larger critters first.

My girlfriend just called to say the remaining fish are still alive (2 clowns, 2 bangai cardinals, 1 mandarin) and look relaxed - they were gulping this morning.
Before i left this morning i cooled the water and left the lid off - may be it was too hot or stress?
I didnt turn anything off, the only thing it could be is the heat or the denitrator, but i kept this on as i left this morning, so if it was a sulphur leak, id imagine that would have all died? - but im no expert so keeping my options open till I test everything tonight. Although I dont know how to test if it the denitrator causing the problem. My LFS assured me it was not that?
