Question

Fish Death somethings wrong

Hi Everyone
I have a 150 gallon with a 20 gallon sump(for those of you who don't know). Yesterday I did a water change and put my new Seio 1100 in and everyone seemed fine. This morning I noted my two colt corals didn't open like the normally do but I didn't pay much attention to it. I fed the fish and everyone ate like little pigs. I come home and the two colts are still closed up and my cherub was dead with some crabs eating it. I check my water
Nitrates = 20
calcium = 500
Alkalinity = 0.32 ml
Salinity = 1.024
Temp = 78 -79
Ph = 8.3 - 8.4
All the other fish seem fine and all the other corals seem fine.
Can someone help me figure out whats wrong?
Thanks
Patrick
Ps I'm using Salifert and red sea test

Oh, all the perams look fine then. How long did you let the water mix before the change? Do you use RO/DI water? Did the temp of the new water more or less match the temp of the tank water?

I am less worryed about the colt because corals like that tend to stay closed from time to time, either because they are sheding, or just ticked off.

What I ment was how long did you spend mixing the salt with the RO water before doing the water change?

not long I did the whole thing in a hour or so. The cherub was fine this am swimming all around nibbling on the rocks and all the other fish are very active and wanting to be fed more. Do you think one of the hermit crabs could have cought him?

I seriousally doubt a hermit crab could have cought a healthy fish.

But you need to mix your water at least a day in advance! Salt is very caustic when first mixed and can be very harmfull to your tank.

Sorry about the loss, could the new Seio have anything to do with it?

Thanks Pauli
I'm not sure the fish was no where around the new Seio when I found him. That might have something to do with the colts they may not like the flow but it's not directly flowing on them. They are high up and toward the front the Seio is low behind the rocks in the back.

should I move it? Or will they get use to it? I really don't think they are feeling much flow from it. I put it behind the rocks down low. Should I see if they open tomorrow?
