First water change with a RO/DI - Need guidance/instructions

This will be my first time using RO/Di for a water change. Ha a few questions.


I have the RO/DI pumping water into a 20G Rubbermaid as I type. And plan to place a PH in there to move the water around for the mixing process.


Should I do the entire container full of RO /DI water or 50/50 with tap ?

How long should i let the water mix before doing the actuall water change ?

No tap water at all ever again!

I ussually let mine mix at least 24 hours!

Will the tank blow up if I have to use tap in case of an emergancy water change or anything ?

Another 3 - 4 hours and it should be full. Then in goes the heater and the PH.





Blow up = Alge blow up or what not.

Yep, 24 hours so pH normalizes. Use 100% filtered water. Nothing to it, just like before but with no tap water.

I always keep a 30g Brute full of RO/DI just in case of any emergencies.

what i do is i wait and make water in gallon jugs and when i need it i mix and use it the best thing i ever did

Good idea , with 3 young kids we ALWAYS have empty milk jugs

Don't some recommend letting a new RO/DI run for some period of time before using the water in our tanks?

Yes , I ran it for 2 days to make sure everything was cleared and cured and what not. Hope that was long enough.

no more tap water, ever if at all possible. If necessary, buy distilled water rather than tap water...
