both would be good IMO, but are you sure 12 chromis is enough ? lol just joking, may be too much.

lol well i figure the chromis always end up killing each other, so if out of 12 i end up with 3 then id consider myself lucky

I'm not a fan of the chromis any longer. They really don't school and they weeded out 5 of the weaker members of the group so that there are only six now. But I've had the six for a long time. If I could do it over again, I would not have gone with the chromis, but that's just my opinion

Clown are Damsel too.But they can be more agresive so I'd do the chromis, but I too think 12 is a lot.

If you want 12 Cromis maybe 2-3/week. Remember patience is key. you dont want to over load your tank too quickly

yeah thats what i was wondering, that 12 is too much to add at once
chromis are the only small schooling fish i can think of, and like you said they really dont school for long so maybe whats the point lol
i had three in a 55g once, they killed each other, it was violent, not the peaceful image that websites portray them to be
i do have three bannerfish on my wish list. liveaquaria says they are easy to care for, but not sure how hardy they are and if they are good candidates for being the first fish??

Many cardinal fish will loosely schoal in a reef tank. There are some nice ones if you shop around and look from a break from the norm.

Firefish are beautiful schooling fish. Right now I have a couple and they just swim around together all day. They dug out a little dart hole under my LR and they sleep in there together. I am going to the LFS today to pick up a pair of Ocellaris Clowns to add to my tank. I can't wait.

I have a pair of firefish and a pair of clowns in my tank as well! .. I love watching the firefish when they are paired or schooled.
