First casualty :(

My diamond goby jumped out of the tank last night, I'm bummed.

I thought, "hey, I haven't noticed him today..." looked behind the tank, and there he was, shriveled up and dead.

I thought in my new tank, this wouldn't happen. The canopy and lights are 4" off the water, and the tank has the glass edges and supports, it's not completely wide open. Dude found the right angle and jumped right out.

I really dig these fish, they're so cool to watch sift sand, and pretty fish too.
I'm debating on egg crate for safety purposes, but I'd think they could STILL be able to jump out, you just increase the chances they smack the eggcrate and not find a way through one of the holes. (they're thin fish.)

Anyone know of another goby that does the same thing, but isn't such a jumper? I think my tang scared him out of the tank, since it was only the two of them in there, but that's just a guess.

Sorry to hear about your goby!

I have a diamond goby as well. I agree with you in that they are fascinating to watch. He was quite scared of my purple tang at first. He buried himself under some lr and spent alot of time there the first few days. He is quite used to the tang now. He will stay out of the tang's way, but doesn't run and hide every time he comes around.

The goby is becoming quite good at helping me to keep my lr clean as well.

The only thing I have found to keep stuborn fish in the tank is that foam board stuff they sell in office supply areas. Its easy to cut around things and is solid unlike egg crate. If ventalation is a big issue, in alot of frog things, the plstic mesh from craft stores can go over egg crate. I have no idea what its really called, it the stuff little kids make kleenex box covers out of by sewing yarn over the mesh if that helps at all.
