FIND YOUR BUDDY! (Will my Hi-fin and pistol find each other?)

I just bought a paired high fin goby and pistol shrimp from the lfs last night.

I really took my time acclimating them... 1.5 hour drip then 30 minutes of temperature equalization. When I put them in the tank, the pistol took off to the back of the tank and the goby went to the front. Granted, it is not a very big tank, but the guy at the lfs said to be careful to put them in the tank together otherwise they might "lose" each other.

This morning, the goby is moving around doing goby things, but I cant find the shrimp anywhere. Will the two find each other eventually?

Do they need each other, or is it for entertainment purposes only? That is so sad

it may take some encuragement.
when you find the shrimps home(probably under a rock somewhere), nudge the gobie twords it(use a streightened coat hanger, or wooden dowel,etc...). maybe use food in a long baster or pipet or saringe to help.
one pair i had never found each other. however my recent pair did.

nothing bad, the whole symbiotic relationship in our home aquariums is really just for our pleasure, they'll be fine alone.

FYI... I use the plastic rod off vinyl blinds for a tank "stick." Better than wood and for sure don't use a metal hanger.

I tried that last night. The shrimp had parked itself near the substrate on some LR. I scooted the still petrified goby over to it, but I think it was too scared. Maybe after some further acclimation the two will move in together.

With my luck, the shrimp will excavate a hole in the back of the tank somewhere out of sight.

I got a shrimp/goby a month ago, and the woman at the LFS told me they would definitely find each other... and they DID! I am lucky that they chose a place in the front of the tank where i can see.

But I must say that I am disapointed, because I NEVER see the shrimp. I see the caves, and I hear it, but i almost never see it. I see the goby though, he's cool.

So, good luck. I hope they find each other, and more importantly, LIKE each other
