Find me a clam!!LOL And info if you are thinking about them
There really isnt a point to this thread. Feel free to chime in with your clam stories and experiences. I want to try to start breeding them but need to read a lot more about them. Let me know if you have any of the below and what kind of luck you have had with any of them.
Tridacna Crocea - everyone knows what these are. So far I think these are the most demanding clams on the planet.
Tridacna Squamosa - Basically the 2nd easiest to keep. I have had them thrive from anything under PC's to flourescent lights to halides.
Tridacna Maxima - I have always had personally really good luck with these things. Some of them can be a little more demanding and they flip themselves all over the place if they dont like where you put them
Tridacna Derasa - I have 4 of these things because they are damselfish of clam.
Tridacna Gigas - they are ok looking, but my LFS turned me off to them when they showed me a 2 footer that had been in their tank for two years and was 6 inches when they got it.
Tridacna Tevoroa - This is one of the hardest clams to find.
Tridacna Rosewateri - Based on the shell, I MIGHT want one of these. They are the rarest on the planet and apparently come from about a 500 square yard area in the middle of nowhere around an island that most of us have never heard of. I read that some places have them, but most are museums and so forth. So of course it would odd if any of you could find one of these
Hippopus Hippopus - Ugly. I think they arent the greatest looking clams anyways. Relatively easy to find though but I dont think I have seen one where the mantle extends beyond the shell.
Hippopus Porcelenus - Basically the same as above.
