filter sock

Well I have the hose coming off the oveflow, and then going into the rubbermaid roughneck tub (aka my refugium). I was wondeing if I could ziptie a filter sock to it to trap the detritus and stuff floating around, and just change/clean it every once in a while? It would be easier to set up and clean than using filter floss on a drip plate in a box, and cheaper too. I gues the only problem I may run into would be the splashing noise, but with my doors it shouldn't be that loud.. just that nice trickling noise - what do you guys think?

If the noise gets to be too annoying, put a tee on the end of the pipe, inside the sock. Handy to tie the sock to, and helps reduce noise.

I was cleaning the bottom of my tank and put a sock on the powerhead. Make sure you clean it with fresh water though, phosphates from laundry detergent can get into your tank.
