Film on surface water in return of sump

The water runs from my tank to a micron filter sock that I clean every 2 days which is the area where the skimmer is housed.

In the return area of my sump there is a film on the water, looks like organics to me.

Any thoughts how to get rid of it?

Better skimmer?

Disrupt it and let it back to the tank?

leave it alone?

Surface agitation... it blocks gas exchange and can lead to pH issues.

The next time you do a water change drain that section as empty as you can after stirring it up with the return shut off. I wouldn't want that to go back into the display but it'll probably end up back in the sump anyway.

+1

A power head pointed towards the surface should break it up and give the skimmer the ability to remove it.

its worse to be sitting on the surface of the water than to be in the water column. If it is in the water column the skimmer can remove it.
