Question

Favorite Magazine

Ok, so I know you guys dont get to post your opinions very often

SO...... tell me...........
I have a magazine that I purchased some time ago I like its called Freshwater and marina Aquarium. It looks like a good publication but...........

What do YOU read for magazines? Are there better ones aimed toward people that are reefers only???

Opinions?

I have stacks of old FWAM magazine, also tropical fish hobbiest and the Marine Fish Monthly
None are newer than Jan 2001. I found that most were humungous advertisments and most of the reef articles were behind the times compared to info I was getting online. Unless theres a good one out there I am missing I dont bother anymore

I am with Doug. I used to get AFM, but I got sick of them recommending things like, "Get rid of Bristle worms!" so I just read read read on the net nowadays Still, I do enjoy picking it up loacally and ready an issue or two.

Adrienne,
I subscribed to FAMA several years ago but, as Doug said, most of the mags are too full of ads and not enough content. I occasionally pick up a magazine at the LFS, mainly to look at the ads to see what's out there, but I get almost all my info on line. I find the better MO dealers have the current best products and some, like Premium Aquatics, has pretty good info about them.
Aquarium Frontiers is a good online magazine and their article archives are a treasure trove of info.

Adrienne, have gotten FAMA from day one,not bad, have had fresh and salt over the years,,had TFH when it was the size of a TV guide!(dating myself)i do like Marine Fish Monthly ,due to the fact that it is only SW.articles might get a little basic, but nice to have a mag that caters to only SW.subscribe to FAMA and MFM ,pick up TFH on occasion, read all, take it with a grain of salt,,, seems to be more of strongly opinionated articles in all of them,,,,read and decide,,,,

Does Aquarium Frontiers count? When I first got interested in the hobby Lisa and I used to impatiently await the next issue. On that point I heard that it is closing shop. Too bad, it was a great source of information.

I like AFM because it is all that is out there.

*edit* I missed your post Dick

I agree with most of the above. I don't really read any of the mags, the salt/reef info is scant and sketchy. Like Drew said 'how to get rid of those bristle worms that eat everything'.

I get FAMA when it has a decent salt article and I subscribe to AFM. My favorite mag is the Marine and Reef Annual. Aquarium Frontiers is still on the net, but they dont publish anymore articles as far as I know. All of the old ones are archived though.

Aquarium Frontiers was the only magazine (online-only) worth anything. Unfortunately, they don't have as many new articles as they used to.

I don't buy any over-the-counter fish mags

From what I hear AF archives will still be available but no new articles will be written (there have been new ones just not as many). Terry Siegel has mentioned on fishnet that he is going to try keeping something going for the advanced hobbyist. I hope he is successful.
