Favia Question

I have a small favia frag(about the size of a golf ball) that has been in my tank for about 6 weeks now. During that time it has really lightened up in color and no longer seems interested in eating. The first few days it was putting out sweeper tentacles at night, but I have not seen any since then. It is under VHO lights as it was in the store but the color was much darker and more vibrant in the store. In the tank it is positioned up high in a well lit spot. The area of the coral that is facing down seems to have retained its color. Should a favia be in a lower light area of the tank or does it perhaps need higher light? Any other suggestions would be great.

I've heard this coral can handle strong light but I've kept mine down low and its always done great. You may want to lower it maybe even shade it.

My favia prefers low light it is pretty much shaded at the bottom of my tank and bounced back quite well

mine is in the middle of the water column. I have it under (2) 250 10K XM MHs and (2) 55w 420 atinics. Sweepers out night and I feed it freeze dried krill every 2 weeks or so. I remove the shells and then soak the meat and hand feed it.

So I guess I will be dropping it to the bottom of the tank. My VHO lighting must be more powerful than originally thought because i have managed to bleach out a couple of hard corals with them that then tend to recover in a lower light spot. I'm not sure I get how people are blasting their corals with MH and not having them get bleached.

Also is it okay to put a favia directly on the sand?

Mine is the bottom of the tank and is doing well. I would aim for low to moderate lighting and low to moderate flow. You can place them on the sand but don't place live tissue directly on the sand as it will die.
