Fans(s) for Tek Hood?

I got the Tek 6 x 54 T5 lighting on my new 75. The hood does not have fans and the bulbs (and the tank) get very hot. The water temp goes from 79.6 to over 82 in about 5 hrs. with the lights 6" above the water surface. I read that using fans at the ends of the lights will reduce the heat and will extend the life of the bulbs. Is this true? If so, what type of fans are people running? If you have any set up can you post some pics?
Thanks, Don

That's quite true, especially if you have an enclosed canopy. I've got a retrofit T5 setup, but I'm overdriving the bulbs by about 30% with icecap ballasts. For me, it's paramount to cool the bulbs or their output and lifespan is greatly reduced. For you, with what I can only assume are standard ballasts, it's not as critical, but it definitely wouldnt hurt.

I designed my canopy to fit large clip on fans in it. Here's a couple pictures to give you an idea, but the benefit of having larger fans is more air flow with less noise. Some fans (especially the cheap ones) can really hum along at high rpm's, and the ones I've got (search Air King at marine depot) work quite well.

I actually installed these into my canopy and they work like a charm and are controllable...I point the air blowing in and it seems to work alot better cause I keep my house fairly cool...2 400watt metal halides and I keep the tank a constant 80 degrees with just these fans.

Chris, Thanks, I'll check out the Air King fans. I don't have a hood, so I'm hoping to find some that aren't too big, but I also really don't want the noise if I can help it.
