Fairy Wrasses
I have been looking at some fish choices for my tank when i am ready for fish. I found 2 fairy wrasses that look really awesome. I was curious if 2 fairy wrasses can co exist together in the same tank and not fight.
here are the 2:
Scotts Australian wrasse (Cirrhilabrus scottorum)
Purple Velvet wrasse (Cirrhilabrus luteovittatus)
I can not find anywhere that states that they can not co exist in the same reef tank. both species are docile.

I have seen tanks with only fairy wrasses, your best bet is to add at same time, the tank is big enough, worst case you will have to pull one out and try another. ITs goes with the same thing with other species, some will some wont co exist but its up to the behavior of the particular fish. The younger you can get them in the better. There was some posts about this at RC thats about 200 pages long....

They should be ok in your tank. Bothare very peaceful. I'm not sure I know about a Purple, I've only seen Red Velvet.

I bought two baby fairy wrasse from the same store on the same day. They got along fine for a cpl of months then they started fighting. Not enough to kill each other but enough to make life miserable. After a cpl of weeks it became clear one was being dominate over the other. While the dominate one grew and became prettier and stronger the other one would hide and hope food would pass his way. I hoped things would change but it didn't. The dominate one never killed the other one but I felt so bad for the weaker one. At the same time I was trying to catch a blenny that was going after my clam. I cam home and the weaker wrasse along with the blenny was in the trap. I gave both fish to a friend of mine. I hope if you decide to add more than one you have better luck than I did.

Hey DevilBoy
I have had some good experience with fairy wrasses. Your best bet is to use the Bronco method of using the collection/specimen cup to introduce new fairy wrasses to your system if you already have other fairy wrasses in the tank. Check out that other site for his advice.
Basically you leave the fish in the specimen cup (after proper acclimation that is) , feed him in it, make sure he gets good coloration and is feeding .. before you send him off to the new tank.. actually even if you have other fish in the tank, I would do this, especially if they are large and or territorial.
I have lost some expensive fairy wrasses when not following this procedure.
I get pretty much any fairy wrasse you can imagine in, and the only thing I say away from is putting 2 males of same species together.
The scotts and velvet should be fine together.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
