Changing an outlet is much simpler. I would recommend adding GFCI outlets. You kill the breaker for that outlet and install the new one.

That sound like a better idea. The outlets are not in a convenient place. Would I put both outlets on a singe breaker? And as long as the outlets are GFCI, then I dont need the Arc Faults? Thanks for your help

If you place the GFCI in the outlet closest to the breaker box, you only need one. It will protect the other outlet down the line. If you don't know, it won't hurt to put two in.

Do a simple check to see if your 2 outlets are on the same circuit, plug a lamp in to each one then locate the breakers and turn them off and see which lamp goes out, hopefully you will have separate circuits for the plugs you are using. If thats the case you are in good shape. I would suggest running the light and some auxillary flow device on one outlet and the skimmer/return pump on the other, if you have 2 heaters split them up. This way if say the lights pop a breaker it doesn't take out the whole life support system for the tank
