Nice.
wanna hear something odd. I lost my dinner plate sized colony. Half of it rtn'd overnight. I found this crazy gash in the underside like nothing ive ever seen before. Looks like someone took a machete to it. I did save quite a few decent minicolonies of it but it was really strange and the half that RTN's was opn the same side as this gash in the over 2" thick core of it

isnt that insane?? I guess if anything its not my favorite coral so it could have been worse, but I would love to know what the heck did it.
Who knows I could be way off base and the gash might have had nothing to do with it. You can tell that the gash didnt happen overnight from the coral trying to grow over it kinda. But all paramters perfect as does everything else int he tank look perfect. the half of the croal that RTN's happened to be the same half of the base that that gash is in.
There is also the slight possibility that it was a crab of some kind and I lost it in a bucket of rubble and water that I put that part of the coral in before i really dissected it. In hindsight that wasnt very smart. I of course dumped the rubble but I would really like to know what did it. I posted it ont he big board and nobody else had ever seen anything quite like it either
?? lol

okay.. spill it..
what kind of t-5ho are you using? type of bulbs. (reefgeek has too many to choose from.. lol. )
what sized tank?
how much does a sand bed effect growth?
reason i asked is i am about to get the t-5ho light set hopefully this weekend if i don't get too busy again.. (think i am going on strike with the household.) i want to get a few pieces of sps.. i am going to have a 55 gallon tank. 4 bulb t-5ho light set ( http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_Fluorescent/IceCap/SLR_Retrofit_Kits/48_inch__4x54W_SLR_T5_High-Output_Retrofit_Kit_w!_Bulbs_by_IceCap ) i just finished buying the sand too.. lol. ordering the rock as soon as its available.
now i have to find the birdsnest thread.. i would like to get one of those too. just though i would have to put mine up at the top few inches of the tank to grow..
now i just need to figure out the calc, alk, and mag..
great shots by the way. what kind of camera you using?

Eight 54W bulbs, overdriven on icecap ballasts, bulb colors in the 12kK for the most part.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread just to show about how much it's grown. It's surprising that it's been over 6 months. Yikes!
Today, but a deceiving picture, as it's coming right out towards the front.
Kind of a crummy picture that shows the side.
