Exchanging substrate?

What if I were to siphon out some of my cc? It is mixed with a fine sand(argonite, 3-1 cc). Could I replace it with SD? Since my tank has aged alomost 2 years would the milkshake effect harm my critters? I would like to replace about 1/3 of my DSB. Would SD be the route to go, or does some one have a different suggestion. I have about 30 lbs, of SD to use.

If you replace a few square inches at a time, you should be fine. I would also rinse the SD well before adding it- should keep the 'dust' down.
