Euro-Reef or ASM Skimmer?
Which is a better brand/ company / better quality product? Euro-Reef or ASM? Vote on which on you would rather have and tell us why. I'm trying to decide on these two.
Euro-Reef RS-80
or
ASM G-1

euroreef clearly. ASM shouldnt even be considered....EVER.
not that they cant do a good job. but a octopus is every bit as good and made out of real acrylic isntead of plastic and costs half as much. both octopus and asm are comparable to RS series Euroreefs and they all work much better meshmodded.

Even though I do use a euroreef RS series on one of my tanks ran with a modded eheim pump and like it a lot.......I wouldnt recommend this skimmer to purchase if you are looking at the lower end RS series. Save your cash and buy the octo. It will perform the same. And if you are looking at the more expensive RC series....buy a bubblemaster or the knock off version the running the same sicce pumps. instead

Euroreef is better than ASM hands down. ASM skimmers are good, but the quality of construction isn't even close. The only knock on Euroreef is they can be difficult to deal with on warranty / parts issues. Plus, now they are more difficult to purchase.

The new Octopus pro 250 is coming out soon... Im debating one of those. I hear great things about Oco on RC. Word is ASMs are overpriced and overrated (literally, they arent for as many gallons they say they are).

since danjen brought it up...i forgot to add that I wont every buy another ER product again.
their customer service sucks. I had a very serious issue happen with a poorly epoxied skimmer pump. 4 months old and it filled my tank with rust. I wanted tp upgrade to the ehiem and not the gen x and isntead of simpl;y letting me pay the difference for the eheim upgrade, they wanted wo milk me for ABOVE retail on the upgrade cost difference. I politely told them that they just filled my tank with rust and and they could go #%^%#^&$&^%$^%$ and they finally flexed and gave me a bargain. They gave me full retail pricing for the upgrade on a serious warranty issue......and I had to argue to get it.
I like my skimmer, but it will be the last ever for sure

Sucks for them. That probably just lost them 2 sales (me and OP). Customer service is huge. Thats why I dont usually bargain shop around online, and just go to marine depot. Theyre great when it comes to helping out a customer.

I had a different experience then flyguy. I thought my gen-x pump was too loud, called them up, and they sent me the ehiem 1262 pump for $100. I thought it quite fair, and this was after they sent me an upgraded needlewheel for no cost.

Why no option for "other?" I love my Octo NW200 and it was just over $200 with shipping!

I agree that the octo performs just as well for a lot less. Out of the two options given, ER is better. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone who was dissatisfied with their nw200. If the 250 is better (which it looks like it will be), that will be a seriously awesome skimmer. BTW, I have been seeing more reports of problems with the octo HOB skimmers lately so I wouldn't recommend those.
