ETS skimmers

I've been out of the hobby for a while (inconsistent with raisin young-ens and all) but now my 7 yr old is showing an interest. I've been reviewing this site for equipment ideas, and I see no one mentions the ETS skimmers anymore. Have they been junkpiled in favor of the octopus and deltec styles?

Ya,.. in a way,. the big beckett and downdraft skimers have kinda gone out of vogue in a way due to the huge pressure rated pumps they require. The needlewheel style skimmers offer less turbulance, much less power use, and tons of foam so most people are going this route including myself.

i agree. I think it's become a cost-thing. The modern needle-wheel skimmers can produce GREAT results for much less overall cost ( including the power consumption )

i agree with the previous 2. I use to run a MRC MR1 skimmer. it was a great beckett skimmer. But the downfall was the power hungry pump it needed to run, and the constant adjusting of the foam to make it skim. since then i have switched to the Octopus NW200 and i love it
