Emerald crabs dying

I just recently lost two of my emerald crabs within a couple of days. Any thoughts on what might cause Emeralds to go south like that?

How long have you had them? Do you feed the tank? What other fish do you have in the tank?

Are you sure they died, or did they molt? When crustaceans molt they often hide more than usual for a few days as their new shells harden. They are more vulnerable to predation during that time, so they keep a low profile.

Molts are empty shells, where the animal inside broke out - they look like perfect replicas of the animal itself but don't have innards or eyeballs. In crabs usually they come out of the old shell through the bottom... like a "trap door" on the belly, as it were.

At first I thought they had molted. But everything was still there. Eyes, everything. My shrimps (cleaners and peppermints) were cleaning out the carcasses. I actually lost my last one today. I have had them for about 8 to 9 months. I feed the frozen marine cuisine. The fish in the tank are a maroon clown, 2 yellow chromis, and a flame angel. It is a 55 gallon.

I have had several emerald's on different occassions and it seems as if they die off after 6-9 months, I have never had one over 9 months it seems...one of those phenoms I guess...dunno
