Ebo Jager Heaters
So, I am working on my 30 gal. sump for my 125 gal reef tank and I am trying to position the two 200 watt ebo jager heaters I have purchased. A lot of ad's claim the heater to be "fully" submersiable. Well the question is "How far is considered Fully submersied?". I was positioning them to be totally under water, until I noticed the text on the top dictating not to submerse past the top line. So how many of you guys/gals out there have their jager's all the way under the water? Has anyone had any bad experiences with putting their Ebo's all the way under? I have a Ebo in my 5 gal sump that goes to my 15gal tank, and I just put it in at an angle so that the top is out of the water and the tube is submersed.

Thanks for the reply,
I have done some more looking around on the web, and I have found some info. that says that they just can't pass certain standards, specifically some CSA Canadian standards. So they have to have the little line at the top saying not to submerge past that point. I am going to put them all the way under.

yup ,,, i seem to remember something on this or another board about US/Canada regs/info on the waterline thing,,,being from NC, i think you are OK on getting a U.S. version of heater,,,,,like i said ,,,,yours oughta say on the heater,,,"minimum water level" ,if so you are good to go on putting the whole heater in the water,,,

I've had two fully submerged to the cord for ten years. How's that for a test. They're great heaters. The indicator light doesn't work on one of them but other than that they've been perfect.

Rick- Ewww on the indicator light not working! Then you manually ck your water temp how often? And what do you use to check it?
Good question about the Ebo heater! I've wondered that too. I also wonder about how important is it for the heater to remain in the water unplugged for 15 minutes and then plug it in when I'm getting ready to do a water change? Jeeze, what phraseology, I hope you all understood that

Cath,
I haven't had to adjust the temp in a long time so I just leave it alone. The 120 requires 2 heaters so if any adjustments are neccessary I adjust the other one. Occasionally on real cold days I'll feel the heater to see if it's on and it is. In mild weather I check the temp about once a week. When it's real hot or cold I check daily. You do need to let the heaters acclimate to the water before plugging them in. This will prevent the glass from breaking due to temperature shock. I unplug all of my heaters in the summer time to prevent an accidental fish fry.

I agree with the other that say it's ok to submerge it totally. I have 2 Ebo's in my sump completely underwater. I recall reading somewhere that the Ebo's shipped to the US say not to go past the line but my guess is that it is for liability reasons. I don't know anyone that keeps the top out of the water. Bob

Ebo jags are fully submersible, excellent choice, the only reason they have the submersible line is so they can be CSA approved, Ebo Jags are the only heaters I use. All of mine are pretty much at the bottom of the tank and have never ever ever had any problems what so ever
cheers
