Dwarf Zebra Lion
I have a question about feeding times for a dwarf lion. I've been able to tempt him with live brine shrimp a couple of times. I've also put some small white shrimp in the tank that disappear within a day or so. The only problem is that I'm not totally sure he's eating them. I also have a goby that likes them and a GBTA. Maybe if there's a better time of day/light-cycle to feed them, I can assure myself that he's getting some grub. Also I wonder if he'd eat better with the flow turned down on the tank. He's not the best swimmer in the world. Thanks in advance for any advice.

When i had my lion he would only eat live ghost shrimp that i would have to buy from the LFS..........They are a great looking creature to have in your tank but it can be a pain at times. Try feeding him some forzen food. If you are lucky he will eat it. It is cheaper than live food. It wouldnt hurt to try and feed him with the pumps off. I dont think there is a better time to try and feed them other than they are a night hunter type of fish from my understanding. So try feeding him with the white lights go out and only the actinics are on.

we kept a small 2g FW tank to keep ghost shrimp in for our P. antennata. we used the net trick to get it to eat. get a tiny net from the LFS. put a small ghost shrimp in it. wave it in front of the lion. it will prolly become quite interested when it smells, and sees the shrimp. it will stalk it right out of the net. at least ours did.

Geoff, I did the same thing with mine. I had the same lion as you did. Mine i would use the net to catch the shrimp but i would just dump them in the tank and in minutes he would eat them all.

Hey, thanks for the advice guys...I'll try feeding while the actinic is on and see what happens. I'll also try to get some pics of my tank in progress. My roommate has a good digital camera, but I dunno how to upload the pics. Have to call in a favor, I guess.
Btw, Geoff...as a bartender, that is one BEAUTIFUL pour on that Guinness. Makes me thirsty every time.

they seem to be very practiced over there.
i have come to realization that the order in which Guiness needs to be bought is: if at all possible get it on tap. if tap is not available, then cans are ok, if cans are not available, look for another beer, bottled Guiness is horrible.
this is literally what i told Nikki if she wants to get me some if she is at the store.

Once you have him eating out of the net you can start throwing dead stuff in like frozen krill etc inside the ned with the live ghost shrimp. As he gets used to that you can ween him off of live food onto prepared.

the dwarf lions can be tricky. we use a turkey baster and mysis shrimp after turning the flow down slowly shoot mysis near its head, but ghost shrimp will allways work.
