Dwarf Angels

Hello everyone, i haven't posted in a while ive been busy re doing my tank because of the algae problem. I wasn't running my lghts 24/7 which caused the caulerpa to die so there wasn't anything take phosphates out of my tank, which i think caused the algae bloom. Any ways my waters ten time clearer now and my tank looks absolutely awesome. I was planning on getting a new fsh or coral, if i did get a fish it would probably be an angelfish. I was planning on going with lemon peel angel but i have decided that i like the falme angel and potters angelfish too. I read in a AFM that they are all semi reef safe and there is always a risk when adding wone to your tank because of the possibility of them eating mucus off corals. So just wodering whick one would be best and how they behave and care tips etc. My first pic would be the lemon peel though.

Hey there-

I've never kept an angel in the reef, but may people have good luck with Centropyge argi, the pygmy angel. These little guys dont seem to bother much of anything. It's hit or miss with most of the rest...but most seem to behave. You won't know till you try. Heck, I put a un-reef-safe butterfly in my tank and don't regret it one bit. He's eaten a lot of critters (worms mostly..and aiptasia)..but he sure is pretty .

One comment on the caulerpa. And Tom, Horge, Chris...or anyone else correct me if I'm wrong....but wouldn't the caulerpa need a break from the light to photosynthesize "correctly". I know caulerpa will grow just fine with a light/dark cycle. Any chance that the constant light could have caused it to go sexual and just dissolve?

Anywhoo..have fun picking out a fish. The bicolor angel is truly beautiful. It would be high on my list. This guy, the C. multicolor is very, very high on my list too.

It's a crap shoot with any of them. My Coral Beauty of 2 years loves to munch Xenia-- but leaves other corals alone. Hence, I don't keep Xenia in that tank.

It's pretty much up to the individual.

Coral beauties and flame angels seem to share th same 50/50 safe rating with corals, Lemons and potters are also iffy
Having had a Cherub, They seem to live up to the reef friendly reputation. In the end you pays your money and takes your chances

I had a lemonpeel and it was beautiful. Since I only had a FOWLR, it wasn't a problem, but in that set-up any fanworms or sponges that he could reach were soon goners. I now have a Flame, again a gorgeous fish, but this one doesn't touch the fans, but I haven't seen any sponges. I don't know if they were wiped out, or if the angel eats 'em. Anyway, I'd call it 50/50 on my luck, and I don't think it has to do with one being an lemonpeel, and one being a flame.

Try checking with the LFS and see if they would let you return it if it is a grazer. Some will...
