Durso ?

Hey, I just was out and bought the materials need to build a Durso standpipe. I bought all 1" pvc as I have a 1" bulkhead.

I was just at his site however and noticed he recommends the 1.25" in pvc for larger flow tanks with a 1" bulkhead. But, since I do not have a large overflow and my return pump is only rated 630gph @ 0 head(Ocean Runner 2500).

Will this be a problem? Or can I just use the 1" pvc and parts I already bougth?

Also, would it be ok to use PVC cement to attach fittings? Is it bad for tank water or should I use the plumbers tape as recomended on Durso's site?

On the I used nothing on My Standpipes, They all went togather pretty tight, Thay work very well,

And if you discover that it doesn't work as you thought, you can easily remove it. My return pump is somewhat bigger and maybe my overflow too, but I tried the 1" thinking just like you and was surprised to discover that the 1 1/4" pipe and fitting increased flow considerably, even through the 1" bulkhead. Apparently the friction in the smaller pipe is greater than the restriction of the 1" bulkhead.

So, would I need to use PVC Cement in any of my plumbing? Or plumbers tape?

Or does everyone just basically shove it in tight and leave it?

You don't have to glue the Durso standpipe Only, any external plumbing need to be glued or teflon tape it it has treads,
