DT's Phyto

I love the results that I am getting from using DT's but hate the price. Every time I need a new bottle, I consider not using it any more beacuse of the price.

Here is a dumb idea that I have:

If the solution is live, then why couldn't I perpetuate the bottle by replacing water every time I feed from the bottle. Would the phyto just keep expanding in the bottle?

Don't think so...

Seems like if it was that easy, DT would be out of business. I think I heard somewhere that these companies "alter" the phytoplankton so they are not able to reproduce.

PM Spanky or Casey this Q, they are likely to have more details about this.

I posted this question on another forum and received a lively debate. Many people are adding tap water (for the nutrients) and putting their bottle in the sun for a few hours. It appears that the phyto will grow when warmed up and from the sun. They then use some to feed the tank and refill the bottle.

I'd just grow your own phyto instead. More reliable, can get more product ... and you're in control.

I understand DT's is dead enough so that just putting the bottle in the sun probably won't do what you like. But heck, you can try
