im currently debating this myself (well i wouldnt have a dsb, but was debating whether to have sand in my display at all). I am going to give bare bottom a shot. if I dont like it i can always add a little sand later

I am going with 1/2 inch or less around rocks not under. Just for the look. That is what the folks from Ecosystem recommend. I just got the Ecosystem 3612 system yesterday. (looks great)

btang, some of the people on RC can tend to be a little abrasive sometimes, and you get more flaming going on there. still a very diverse board though and you can learn a lot. I visit RC sometimes, but TRT is 'home' for me

Haven't seen that yet, but thanks for the heads up.

If going for a substrate just for looks what is better, Crushed Coral or Aragonite, sand looks great but a pain to vac. I am ONly looking to go with 1/2 inch or less.
